An analogue system needs three components that a digital system doesn't.
- A multiplexer, this is techno speak for the unit that switches from camera to camera, in a sequence or by demand. It is what allows the system to show more than one video feed at once
and is essential.
- A video recorder, this is necessary to record the video.
Although expensive, the cost of the video recorder is small
in comparison to the supply of VHS tapes that will be needed
for continued use.
- A high quality purpose built monitor with RF or BNC connections
Our digital system is PC based. A complete unit is normally supplied, but if the client has a PC of a suitable specification it may be
adapted, when however, the labour costs are added it is
invariably a better proposition to have one of our supplied
units. The prime requisites are the speed of the processor, the amount of memory installed, the amount of free hard disk space, the operating system and the quality of the graphics card.
Once all of the above are OK, all that is now needed is the cameras and the connections. The cameras come in a wide variety of shapes, styles, colours,
functions and subsequently costs.
The cost of the cameras depends largely on the purpose for which
they were designed. The cheapest being a static internal black
and white dome camera, whilst at the other end of the scale we
have wireless colour cameras, externally mounted with pan and
tilt and a phoenominal zoom that could pick up an asteroid in
the Milky Way. Our engineers will help when deciding on the
correct product for the purpose.
